Bluebell Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to the Bluebell Class page! Here we will be showcasing photographs of the children's work and updates on the activities that we are getting up to! Visit our page to keep up to date with the Bluebell Class journey!

Our teachers this year are Miss Roxburgh (mornings), and Mrs MacGregor (afternoons), who are joined by a wonderful team of support staff: Miss Sergeant, Miss Abati, Miss Thorndell, Miss Tierney, and Mrs Harrington. 

Weekly spelling homework will be sent home on Mondays.

School opens at 8:40am and home time collection will be at 3:15pm.

We had a lovely time at the library this afternoon!

The children have worked incredibly hard this half term and we are SO proud of them, we think they deserved a little partying fun! Today we dressed up in red or pink and had a Valentine's Party Day! We had lots of fun, including an escape room, a tea party, baking cakes and card making!!

The children were given the opportunity to apply for some classroom jobs and have a job interview with Miss Sergeant! Congratulations to our successful candidates!

This term we started our new PE topic of Tag Rugby! We have been loving it and having so much fun so far!

This afternoon, we conducted a very fun experiment to see which materials would stop Humpty Dumpty from breaking when he falls off the wall!

This week we started our new Maths topic; Properties of Shapes. We have had so much fun exploring 2D and 3D shapes, and getting creative in our Maths lessons!

Last week we were sent some magic beans from Jack! We planted them on Monday and look what's grown! The giant was also shouting 'Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum' from the cloud...

The Kindness Fairy gave us another visit and gifted us a Christmas pyjama day and movie afternoon! Way to go Bluebells! Keep up the amazing kindness and hard work! 

 
18th December 2024

On Monday, our elf left us some vouchers for a hot chocolate treat when we were all back together on Wednesday! The children loved being back together again and enjoyed their hot chocolates!

 
16-17th December 2024

Bluebell Class had a very exciting couple of days! Some of us headed off to CHET for a fun overnight stay where we took part in lots of different activities in the woods, and even had a super special visitor before bedtime! The rest of us headed off to bowling and also received a visit from the same special visitor!

Christmas Jumper Day with a Christmas Breakfast followed by a Christmas Quiz!! We're all Christmas'd out today!

The children have been working so hard in DT this half term to plan and design their own trains. We have learned all about different types of wheels and axles! Today we finally got to make our own trains using the designs they created last week! We had so much fun and they look great! Well done Bluebells!

 

Our November Highlights
 
26th November 2024

Super duper proud moment!! Yesterday in Maths we introduced the column method for addition! The children picked it up so quickly and were able to use it to add two 2-digit numbers!! They've even used it in their morning calculations today!

The learning never stops… even at lunchtime! Today we explored mixing paint colours and how long it would take the ice to melt in warm water.

 
15th November 2024

During our Geography lessons, we used digital maps to find our school and home addresses. We used our postcodes and loved zooming in on our streets and homes!

 

This week in literacy we have been working hard to design and write our own set of instructions on how to make a sandwich of our choice. Today we got to see if our instructions actually worked and made our own sandwiches!

We had such a lovely afternoon with a visit from a mobile zoo! We met lots of interesting animals, including a skunk and a meerkat!

We won the litter picking competition by collecting the most litter over a week and helping to tidy up our playground! We won a very special hot chocolate hamper! Go Bluebell!

 
Our October Highlights

 
24th October 2024

Today we had our treat from the Kindness Fairy for filling up our Kindness Jar! We had a fun filled day of spooky games and a Halloween movie with lots of popcorn! 

 

23rd October 2024

Today we visited the Museum of Liverpool! Our History topic this term has been 'The History of Travel and Transport in Liverpool' and we got to see lots of the wonderful things we have been learning about, including a horse and cart, steam trains, and even the River Mersey with the Ferry in action! We also got to explore and learn about some of the iconic buildings in Liverpool which prepares us for our upcoming Geography topic, 'UK Study and The City of Liverpool'. We had the best time!

We had so much fun in our Halloween Forest School session this afternoon!

Today in History we learnt about the Rainhill Trials and the start of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway! We headed outside to take part in our own train races!

 

Friday Fun Day!

 
10th October 2024

Today we headed out to our local section of the Liverpool and Leeds Canal to have an explore and see all of the things we have been learning about in person! We visited Bridge 5 where part of the stone bridge has worn away from the ropes rubbing against it which would have been attached to the horses as they were pulling the boats along the canal! We had so much fun!

The Canal and River Trust visited Bluebell Class today to deliver a 'Build a Canal Workshop' in line with this term's History topic, The History of Travel and Transport in Liverpool. We had so much fun learning about how and why canals were built and even building our very own right in our classroom!

It's European Day of Languages! 

Bluebell Class spent the morning making Paella and trying lots of yummy Spanish foods, followed by lots of flamenco dancing!

We took a whole class vote to nominate our Year 2 Reading Ambassadors!

It's National Charity Day!

We have been learning about the incredible work of the WWF charity and the endangered animals that they help! We have chosen to adopt a Snow Leopard and can't wait to receive our updates!

We had our first Kindness Fairy visit today and filling our kindness jar is officially underway!
